Sustainable use is a concept where given resources are used in such a way that meet present needs while not depleting, impairing, or denying future generations' ability to supply their needs. All of us at Baja Trek wanted to design a travel experience that was small scale and locally based. As a result, the vast majority of resources used in outfitting all treks are supplied by the local economy in Mexico. The supplies are purchased, repairs are made, and operating resources are mostly supplied locally. Thanks for helping out. ![]() ![]() Our goal is to maintain a carbon neutral footprint for the planet. Becoming carbon neutral is accomplished by offsetting one's daily carbon dioxide output by sponsoring carbon reducing efforts such as planting trees. Even though our treks limit greenhouse gases already we did not want to stop there. By partnering with LiveNeutral.org, a non-profit organization, we can reduce our carbon footprint on the planet and surpass our goal of being carbon neutral. It is our dream to be carbon-negative in that our treks actually strive to reverse global warming. ![]() Copyright ©2008 Baja Trek ![]() ![]() ![]() According to a New York Times newspaper article published in 2007, the tourism trade alone accounts for about 5% of the world's carbon dioxide emissions. With your help, we thought we would work to reverse this trend. “Do not follow
where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave
a trail” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
The used waste
vegetable oil is donated by area restaurants and recycled into safe,
usable earth friendly fuel at our co-op. Early studies have shown that
waste vegetable oil used as an alternative fuel is a domestic, sustainable,
renewable resource with virtually zero greenhouse gas emissions.

It's about helping the planet for the next generation. Baja Mexico is a special place. It is not just a travel destination, but our home. It is so special that we want to conserve its prinstine beauty for the future. With this as our mission, we have chosen to run recycled alternative fuels on our Baja treks by specially converting our diesel engines to ease down the road on used recycled waste vegetable oil (WVO). This is the same stuff French fries are fried in. Contact Information US number: Mexico
